Challenge
Two films in one trip
North-South organisation Damien Foundation raises awareness and funds around tuberculosis and leprosy. To inform children in Belgium, hundreds of volunteers go to schools every year with an educational mini-docu.
Making that film every year is a big investment, and requires a lot of energy from the Belgian team. We therefore suggested making two films in one trip. That would be cost-saving for Damien Foundation and give breathing space to the communications team.
Moreover, with our experience in shoots abroad, we have a reliable method to do efficient preparations with a team on the ground remotely.
Approach
Remote and on-site
Nigeria became the destination, specifically the region around Ibadan, Damien Foundation Nigeria's base of operations. Its communications officer started looking for stories in advance. Meanwhile, we wrote an overall scenario, which was feasible in the time foreseen, based on some portraits.
Once on site, the possible locations and stories were discussed with the local Damien Foundation team and we made choices together. Thanks to good preparation in Belgium and Nigeria, we were able to shoot material for two films on location in less than two weeks: 'E ku ise' and 'Ise ya '.
The whole thing was brought together by a commentary voice and clarifying animations.
Result
Children and volunteers all the way
The volunteers from Damien Foundation, who toured the schools with the films, responded enthusiastically to the new films. The film 'E ku ise' was broadcast by RTBF.
The Damien Foundation team won a year's time, which could be used to develop a new long-term vision for their fundraising campaigns.
