Challenge
Posthumous tribute
Every year the Ligue des droits humains or the Liga voor Mensenrechten awards the Human Rights Prize to those who have made meritorious efforts in this field.
In 2020, the prize would go posthumously to Dirk van Duppen, socially committed doctor at Médecine pour le peuple / Geneeskunde voor het Volk.
Due to corona rules, a grand award ceremony was not possible, so we devised an engaging digital event as a tribute.
Approach
As a live TV show
The award ceremony was transformed into a talk show and podcast, recorded at Antwerp's Zuiderpershuis.
Kati Verstrepen, lawyer and spokeswoman for the League, Ben Van Duppen and Lieve Seuntjes, son of and wife of Dirk, engaged in conversation. About why Dirk deserved this award, about the importance of fighting for human rights.
The talks were interspersed with reports, retrospectives and video messages.
Result
Successful online event
The programme was brought into living rooms via livestream, simultaneously on Youtube and Facebook. Hundreds of people watched live.
On Spotify, the recording is also available as a podcast.
"My sincere gratitude for the professional approach. It really led to a beautiful result."
Kati Verstrepen
Presidentof the Human Rights League
